ginger-lime coconut body scrub

My all time favorite DIY body care products to make are body scrubs. Mainly because they’re super easy to make and because it’s such a treat to use them. I think they make the perfect gift as well, and with the holidays coming up I thought I’d share a few new body scrub recipes over the next couple weeks so you can get started on your holiday gifts early.

I used both sugar and sea salt in this scrub, but you can easily use all sugar or all salt. Salt is great for exfoliating and getting rid of rough skin, but it’s a little harsher on skin than sugar, so I would only use this scrub at most once a week. You also want to avoid using salt scrubs on sensitive or irritated skin or right after shaving. Salt scrubs are great for use on feet, since our skin there is a little rougher and not as sensitive.

This scrub will leave you feeling refreshed and invigorated and would make a great gift for someone dreaming of warmer, summer days or an island get-away.

Benefits of Lime Essential Oil:

  • Lime can help brighten skin tone by removing dead skin cells.
  • Lime is helpful in tightening skin and dissolving cellulite.
  • Lime is great for cleaning skin.
  • Lime’s fresh fragrance can help overcome exhaustion and depression and is stimulating and refreshing.

Benefits of Ginger Essential Oil:

  • Ginger is well known for it’s benefits for the digestive system, but has also been used to help with muscular aches and pains.
  • Ginger is a stimulant and is energizing.

*Can use all sugar or all sea salt or any combination equaling 1 cup.

You should avoid direct sunlight for up to 12 hours after use of both lime and ginger essential oil.

This recipe will make 8 oz. of body scrub. I purchased these plastic jars to package my scrubs in, but you can use any glass jar, such as a glass canning jar.
